Two possible developments of this lesson

One teacher then used this to develop the concept of ½ of.

Children used the squares to find to draw shapes with different numbers

of squares and then coloured half. The results of all the work

were written up by the children ½ of 4 = 2  , ½ of 16 = 8 etc

and later ½ of 9 = 4 ½

Another teacher challenged the children to find all possible ways

of dividing the 2x3 rectangle in half.
