Continue/Complete Teacher draws some more
rectangles and children to copy , divide in half and colour

Create Children are challenged
to draw their own rectangles and shade half

Collect Children bring examples
of their work and
draw them on the board


Two possible developments of this lesson
One teacher then used this to
develop the concept of ½ of.
Children used the squares to
find to draw shapes with different numbers
of squares and then coloured half. The results of all
the work
were written up by the children ½ of 4 = 2 , ½ of 16 = 8 etc
and later ½ of 9 = 4 ½
Another teacher challenged
the children to find all possible ways
of dividing the 2x3 rectangle in half.
